A Dragonfly and the Places We Belong
You might notice that there is a dragonfly on every page of this website, and it deserves its own moment because it has a story worth telling.

Years ago, my mom and I watched a movie called Dragonfly. It was a story about a doctor who goes to volunteer in the Amazon while pregnant. Unfortunately, she dies in an accident, and a dragonfly becomes the messenger to her family that her child lives.

When we watched that movie, Rotten Tomatoes did not exist yet, so you could enjoy something without first checking what millions of other people thought about it. There was something magical about that and the story stayed with me.

Years later, when I was leaving my country to start a new life in Canada, my mom came across a dragonfly necklace in a jewellery store and bought it for me. I have not taken off that necklace since she gifted it to me.
For me, the necklace is a reminder that no matter where I am or what I am going through, I have a community I can rely on and the strength to move through life’s challenges.

We all could use those reminders in a world that is more divided than ever. A world that does not always let us show the fullness of who we are and one that can often feel lonely.

Sometimes, we need a reminder of our dragonfly — our place of grounding. The thing that helps us move forward, even through hard days. The thing that reminds us that we are valuable and that we matter.
My hope is that through our conversations, you can be reminded of your own version of a dragonfly.
And for now, if you see a dragonfly somewhere, know that there is someone in the world who carries a love for dragonflies and a belief in you — even on the days when you don’t feel that way yourself.
